M.G.M.S. Library Mission & Goals
Welcome Message from the Librarian
Our History
Mount Gleason Middle School came to life, July 1, 1959. Many of the school's treasured traditions still continue to this day. Nestled at the foot of a mountain that often wears a ribbon made of clouds, the library overlooks a courtyard framed by Crepe myrtle trees, awash with pink blooms in the summer and burnished leaves each fall.
Mount Gleason M.S. Library Mission:
I strive to cultivate creativity, inquiry, and exploration in the school library as I work with Mount Gleason’s talented instructors, supporting instruction during class visits, lunch, and after school.
Build a Reading Culture
The transformative impact reading creates within readers builds confidence and agility as students connect with their units of study, engaging storylines, and compelling research to carry with them beyond middle school.
Through active donation writing applications, support from foundations, and the recent library refresh funding from the school district, Mount Gleason’s collection has grown exponentially, offering titles reflective of the students and their interests. Reading challenges and recognition, in addition to opportunities for students to share their joy for reading through writing and art, remain integral parts of the school’s reading culture. Together, with the support of the school community, we will build a reading culture students will carry with them throughout their lives while providing a safe place for students to gather and feel welcome.
Celebrate the School Community
The library celebrates the array of cultures, interests, programs, and student recognition events that enrich our school community. Special events to celebrate heritage and tradition will continue in the library each month. The library remains a central gathering space to share, display, and present academic and creative work, representing our school culture and traditions.
